Anal Pap:  Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The Anal Pap test is used as a screening tool in high-risk populations to identify patients who have
premalignant cytologic changes or malignancy in the anal epithelium.  

Clinical History/Findings

The patient is a 41 year-old bisexual male with positive HIV status
The patient presented with a suspicious anal lesion  and has a history of condylomas in the anal track.

Specimen Type

The specimen was collected using a moistened Dacron swab inserted 1.5 –2 inches into the anal canal,
sampling the anal-rectal squamocolumnar jucntion.The specimen is rinsed directly into 20 mLPreservCyt.

Cytologic Diagnosis













































Cytologic Dx:        Carcinoma In-Situ

Surgical F/U:         Moderately Differentiated Squamous Cell Carcinoma

HPV Results:           Positive for High Risk Oncogenic HPV Types
